“CREEK FOR LIFE” – A Nia Adventures Ltd. Sustainable Tourism Program

Our Commitment: Travel That Heals, Not Harms
At Nia Adventures Ltd, we believe in transforming travel into a force for good. That’s
why in 2025, we’re launching “Creek for Life”—a flagship CSR and eco-tourism
initiative based in the biodiverse haven of Mida Creek, Watamu, Kilifi County.
This program empowers the local community, promotes conservation through
education and action, and positions tourism as a driver of environmental restoration
and cultural pride.
PROGRAM PILLARS
1. Mangrove Reforestation for Climate Resilience
Goal: To plant a minimum of 1,000 mangrove seedlings annually in partnership with
local conservation women social groups.
Why Mangroves?

  • A single mangrove can absorb up to 25 kg of CO2 every year.
  • They protect shorelines, support fisheries, and are biodiversity hot spots.
  • Mangroves act as natural carbon sinks, making them critical in the fight against
    climate change.
    How It Works:
  • Nia Adventures supports mangrove restoration through guest trips (North
Coast Day Trips) and annual events like the October 10th planting initiative.
  • Guests are invited to join planting sessions during Mida Creek excursions.
  • Each participant receives a “Creek for Life Certificate” reflecting their eco-
    impact
    2. Plastic-Free Travel Advocacy: Reuse Over Waste
Goal: To reduce single-use plastic in tourism through education and traveler
    responsibility.

    Our Approach:
  • Nia Adventures encourages all guests to carry and reuse refillable water bottles
    during their travel.
  • We work with local partners and accommodations to offer refill stations.
  • Educational briefings on how plastic pollution affects marine ecosystems are
    included in our excursions.
    3. Mida Creek Cleanup & Conservation Action Days
Goal: Facilitate annually community and tourist cleanups to protect the coastal
    ecosystem
    Activities Include:
  • Organized shoreline/beach cleanups.
  • Provision of clean-up tools, eco-bins, and waste-sorting awareness.
  • Collaboration with local schools and youth groups for environmental education
Impact: Cleaner beaches, increased environmental stewardship, and a visible
improvement in local waste management awareness
    4. Community Education & Eco-Leadership Development
Goal: Equip the Mida Creek community—especially youth and women—with
knowledge and income-generating skills tied to ecotourism

    Why “Creek for Life”?
“Creek for Life” is our call to action: a celebration of life-giving ecosystems and the
    people who protect them.
It’s about ensuring every trip leaves behind a legacy of care, not carbon. Through this
initiative, guests don’t just visit—they invest in the future of the coast and its
    communities.
